Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair
NOTE: Step numbers below refer to numbers used in the illustrations.
1. Remove the gearbox, see Transmission and Drivetrain.
2. Remove the clutch and pressure plate.
3. On models with manual gearbox, remove the flywheel.

On models with automatic transmission, remove the driver disc.
4. On all models, pry out the seal, taking care not to damage the sealing surface.
5. Lubricate the sealing lips.
6. Insert seal installer tool 83 94 934 (part 1) and then the seal.

Use seal installer tool (part 2) and (part 3) to tap the seal in place.

Make sure that the sealing lips install correctly on the crankshaft.
7. Install the flywheel or the driver disc, then tighten as follows:

Flywheel 65 Nm plus an additional 30° (48 ft. lbs. plus an additional 30°).

Driver disc: 65 Nm plus an additional 30°m (48 ft. lbs. plus an additional 30°).
8. Install the transmission.
