Support - Half Shaft/Short Shaft: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Raise the car and remove the righthand front wheel. Wipe clean the area where the intermediate shaft enters the gearbox.
2. Undo the ball joint nut (1).
3. Remove the anti-roll bar mounting (2).
4. Separate the ball joint from the steering swivel member (3). Use special tool 89 96 696. Press down the spring link and remove the ball joint.
5. Use special tool 89 96 654 to remove the drive shaft from the intermediate shaft (5).
6. Remove the intermediate shaft bearing and bolt.
IMPORTANT: Place a receptacle under the gearbox to collect the oil that will run out.
7. Pull the intermediate shaft out of the gearbox.
8. Remove the O-ring (8).
9. Press off the bearing bracket, using puller No. 87 91 287, or equivalent.
10. Remove the circlip securing the support bearing to the intermediate shaft (6).
11. Press the bearing off the intermediate shaft, using puller 87 91 287.
