Before the steering angles of the wheels can be checked, the toe-in must be correctly adjusted.
Measurement of the steering angles is carried out using two standard graduated turntables combined with optical measuring equipment, as shown.
Each turntable should be centered underneath the respective wheel.
Example: Turn the steering wheel to the left until the righthand (outer) wheel is at an angle of 20°. If the steering angle is correct, the other (inner)
wheel should be at an angle of 20.9 + 0.5°. If the measurements show the angle to be incorrect, then one or both steering swivel members must have
become distorted.
Defective steering swivel members must be replaced.
Track Rod Length
Checking track rod length:
1. Adjust the toe-in.
2. Measure dimension A.
CAUTION: Dimension A must under no circumstances exceed 52 mm (2.03 inch).
3. Repeat point 2 on the other side of the car.
4. The maximum permissible difference between dimensions A and B is 3 mm.
