900 SE Convertible V6-2498cc 2.5L DOHC (1995)
Saab has found that on certain 1995 Saab 900 Convertibles the incorrect installation of the steering column may have resulted in misalignment of
the column. Misalignment of the steering column can result in a fatigue failure in one part of the column shaft assembly.
Until your car's steering column can be inspected, please follow these precautions:

When the engine is off (i.e., without the engine power assist), avoid placing extreme loads on the steering wheel by trying to turn the front
wheels when the car is stationary or there is some obstacle to their movement (e.g., being in some sort of rut).

Should you have any concerns, contact your nearest Saab dealer or the Saab Customer Assistance Center (1-800-955-9007).
II.
What are the safety risks?
If a portion of the steering column should fail completely, the steering wheel will be disconnected from the steering rack assembly and the operator
will not be able to steer the car. This lack of directional control of the car could result in an accident and injuries to occupants or others nearby.
III.
What is Saab going to do?
Saab Cars USA, Inc. has made arrangements with its authorized Saab dealers to inspect your car and replace any misaligned steering column
without charge to you, beginning on February 26, 1996. We urge you to make an appointment with your Saab dealer as soon thereafter as
conveniently possible. Please bring this letter with you on the day of your appointment.
The dealer will use a specially developed inspection procedure to accurately measure your car's steering column alignment. If the dealer finds
misalignment, they will replace the steering column assembly. While this inspection takes only about 30 minutes (add another 30 minutes if the
steering column is to be replaced) to complete, the dealership may need to keep your car for a somewhat longer time because of the flow of work
in and out of their service department.

may also submit a complaint to the Administrator, NHTSA, 400 Seventh St. SW, Washington, DC 20590 or call the toll free Auto Safety Hotline
at 800-424-9393 (Washington, DC area residents may call 202-366-0123), if you believe that Saab Cars USA, Inc. or any authorized Saab dealer
has failed or is unable to remedy this defect within a reasonable time, which is not longer than 60 days after you first bring your car to your dealer
after February 26, 1996.
