Tightening torque: 75Nm (55.5 ft.lbs.).

Fit the front exhaust pipe complete with three way catalytic converter.

Fit air shields but do not tighten the bolt that holds that part of the air shield that covers the link arm attachment on the right-hand side.

Lower the car slightly and install the wheels.

27.

Lower the car completely and torque the wheel bolts.

Tightening torque steel wheel: 90-105Nm (67-78 ft.lbs.). Tightening torque aluminum wheel: 105-130Nm (78-96 ft.lbs.)

When steel wheels are fitted, the new balanced wheel covers, P/N 45 45 729 should be installed on all wheels.

Remove the lifting yoke.

Fit cable to oxygen sensor.

30.

Move the car to a lift where it stands on the wheels with suspension depressed and tighten link arm attachments.

Tightening torque: 125Nm (92.5 ft.lbs.).

31.

Fit the remaining screw to the air shield that covers the link arm attachment on the righthand side.

32.

Check toe-in. If necessary, adjust to 1.5 mm +/- 0.5 mm.

NOTE

This is critical. The toe-in will change when new components are installed.

33.

Test drive the car and verify that the repairs are effective.

For Automatic Transmission Equipped Vehicles

A.

Unscrew the hub nut

B.

Tap out the drive shaft from the hub using a rubber hammer.

C.

Hold out the MacPherson strut and pull out the drive shaft. Place a tray under the car to catch any oil spills.

D.

Use special tool, P/N 89 96 654 to remove the universal joint from the gearbox.

E.

Remove the iron vibration damper (if fitted).

F.

Make sure that the shaft boots are clean. Clamp the drive shaft in a vise.

G.

Undo the outer universal joint clamps and push the rubber boot a short way up the shaft.

H.

Degrease the universal joint. Mark the universal joint's orientation on the shaft for easy installation.

I.

Spread the retaining ring and tap the universal joint from the shaft using a hammer and a brass punch.

J.

Detach the rubber boot.

K.

Place the drive shaft in a press and lubricate it and the rubber weight, P/N 46 45 594 using soapy water.
