900 SE Convertible V6-2498cc 2.5L DOHC (1995)
IMPORTANT: The universal joint is extremely sensitive to dirt and other foreign particles, as they can cause serious damage if allowed to get inside.
DISASSEMBLY
1. Clean the outside of the universal joint. Undo the clips securing the rubber gaiter and lift away the universal joint housing.
2. Wipe clean, remove the circlip and pull the joint (spider) off the shaft. Use a suitable three arm puller.
3. Peel the rubber gaiter off the drive shaft.
4. Wipe the universal joint, the spider and the drive shaft clean.
ASSEMBLY
1. Install the new rubber gaiter on the drive shaft and secure it with a new retaining clip.
2. Install the spider.
NOTE: Make sure that the chamfered end of the spider faces inwards on the shaft (see illustration).
3. Install the circlip.
4. Pack the universal joint with 175 grams of Mobile GS57C grease, or the equivalent.
5. Assemble the drive shaft and universal joint (spider) housing.
6. Install the rubber gaiter and secure it with a new clip.
