right way round (with the part No. facing downwards). Grip the piston rod with a suitable tool and tighten the nut, using special tool 89 96 662.
Remove the spring compression tool (part Nos. 88 18 791 and 88 18 809).
10. Install the MacPherson strut in position on the car and tighten the three nuts at the top mounting (1). Tighten the nuts alternately to 18 Nm (13.3 ft.
lbs.).
11. Tighten the nut securing the ball joint (2) to 75 Nm (55.4 ft. lbs.).
12. Tighten the nut securing the anti-roll bar to the link arm (3) to 10 Nm (7.4 ft. lbs.).
13. Install the back-plate and brake disc (4).
14. Check that the brake piston is pressed back into the cylinder.
15. Install the brake caliper to the swivel member (5). 10 Install the wheel sensor (6).
16. Tighten the hub centre-nut slightly (7).
CAUTION: If the hub centre-nut has been slackened or removed, a new centre nut must always be fitted. This is because the locking device on
the nut will be less effective if the nut is refitted.
17. Install the wheel and tighten the five wheel bolts to 105 - 130 Nm (77.5 - 95.9 ft. lbs.).
18. Lower the car and tighten the hub centre nut when all four wheels of the car are on the floor (7) . Tightening torque: 290 Nm (214 ft. lbs.).
19. Tighten the nut at the top mounting (8), using a torque wrench to 90 Nm (66.4 ft. lbs.).
20. Pump the brake pedal to advance the brake pistons in the calipers.
