Valve: Service and Repair
Removal
NOTE:

Cylinder head removed and mounted in holder tool No. 83 93 795, or equivalent.

Step numbers below refer to numbers used in the illustrations.
CAUTION:
^
The cylindrical surfaces round the valve springs constitute sealing surfaces for the tappets and must not be scratched or scored.

Install protective sleeves tool No. 83 93 746, or equivalent, round these tappet guides to protect them.
1. Remove the camshaft bearing caps and lift out the camshafts.
CAUTION: To prevent camshaft or cylinder head breakage, it is important to remove the bearing caps where the tappets are under load last.
2. Remove the tappets and place them in valve stand tool No. 83 93 787, or equivalent.
3. Install the protective sleeves.
4. Use valve spring compressor tools No. 83533 761 and anvil 83 93 779, or equivalent, and remove the collets.
5. Lift out the spring cap and valve spring, not forgetting the washer.
6. Remove the valves and place them in valve stand tool No. 83 93 787, or equivalent.
