Ball Joint: Service and Repair

NOTE:  The numbers found below in parenthesis ( ), refer to that number (and that part/component) found in the illustration.

REMOVAL

1. Undo the anti-roll bar nut (1).
2. Remove the ball joint nut (2). Use special tool 89 96 696 to press the ball joint stud out of the swivel member (3).
3. Remove the ball joint nut and bend the support arm/suspension arm down.
4. Remove the locking ring securing the rubber gaiter and remove the gaiter (4).

INSTALLATION

1. Pack the new rubber gaiter with grease of Molycote Long-term 2-78 type.
2. Position the gaiter and install the locking ring (4).
3. Press the support arm/suspension arm up wards into the right position and install the nut on the ball joint. Tighten the nut, using a torque wrench

(2).
Tightening torque: 75 Nm (55.4 ft. lbs.).

4. Install the anti-roll bar nut and tighten it, using a torque wrench (1).

Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.4 ft. lbs.).
