Air Bag: Procedures

1. Locate vehicle in an open area outdoors.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove bottom steering column cover, then disconnect orange two-terminal connector.
4. Connect deployment device84 71 104, or an equivalent electrical connector to the disconnected two terminal orange connector, Fig. 15.
6. Ensure all vehicle windows and doors are closed after connecting deployment device.
7. Connect deployment device to a fully charged 12 volt battery positioned approximately 30 ft. from vehicle. Ensure no people, animals or objects
are within 30 feet of the vehicle.
8. Press deployment tool button to detonate air bag. When air bag detonation occurs, an explosion will be heard and white smoke will be visible in
passenger compartment. After air bag has detonated, allow SRS system components 30 minutes to cool before handling.
9. If air bag fails to detonate, disconnect deployment device from battery and carefully inspect connections. Also inspect battery state of charge. If
connections and battery are satisfactory, contact Saab for further information.
