Subject: Screech/Squeal Noise When Opening or Closing Sunroof (Apply Squeak Reduction Tape to Sunroof Window Brackets)
Models:
2008-2009 Saturn Astra
with Sunroof (RPO C3U)
Condition
Some customers may comment on hearing a screeching or squealing noise when opening or closing the sunroof. This condition occurs most often when
the sunroof seals are moistened by rain, dew or a car wash.
Cause
This condition may be caused by the interaction of the sunroof window mounting brackets with the flocked inner surface of the sunroof outer perimeter
seal.
Correction
Tip
Confirm this condition by lightly touching the outer seal while cycling the sunroof open/closed, feeling for vibrations within the seal.
Important
When this condition is found, DO NOT lubricate the sunroof assembly or replace the sunroof seal and/or frame (housing).
Apply squeak reduction tape to the outside surface of the right and left sunroof window brackets following the steps below:
1. Remove the front sunroof window. Refer to Sunroof Window Replacement - Front in SI.
2. Partially cycle the sunroof so the window brackets (1) are in the highest, level position in relation to the outer perimeter seal, as shown above.
Ensure that the window brackets are clean and free of any dirt/debris.
