Timing Belt: Service and Repair
Timing Belt Replacement

Removal Procedure
1. Open the hood.
2. Disconnect the battery.
1. Disconnect the negative connection from the ground terminal.
2. Loosen the nut.
3. Remove the air cleaner housing. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (See: Tune-up and Engine Performance Checks/Air Cleaner
Housing/Service and Repair).
4. Remove the front toothed belt cover (top). Refer to Timing Belt Upper Front Cover Replacement (See: Timing Cover/Service and Repair).
5. Raise the vehicle by its full height.
6. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement (See: Drive Belts, Mounts, Brackets and Accessories/Drive Belt
Tensioner/Service and Repair).
7. Lower the vehicle by its full height.
8. Remove the camshaft cover. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement (See: Cylinder Head Assembly/Valve Cover/Service and Repair).
9. Set the engine to TDC (1).
Turn the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation by the bolt of the torsional vibration damper to cylinder 1 TDC of combustion stroke.
