Tire and Wheel Balancing
Once the wheel has been fitted to the vehicle residual imbalance could occur that is usually caused by rotating vehicle components such as wheel hubs,
brake drums and brake disks. In order to compensate for this residual imbalance, the wheels can be re-balanced on the vehicle using mobile balancing
equipment (finish balancer or precision balancing device).
Electronic imbalance measuring is carried out using a mobile balancing device using 2 measurement recorders (measuring supports) with a built-in force
sensor.
The mounting points should be on the axle body as close as possible to the mid-point of the wheel. There must always be a direct rigid metal connection
between the measuring support and the wheel suspension, i.e. do not place the measuring support beneath rubber bearings or shock absorber mounting
lugs.
Important: The wheels on the drive axle must always be driven by the vehicle's own engine in order to prevent damage to the transmission. An
exhaust extraction system must be present at the workplace.
The measuring procedure may be interrupted due to different running speeds or directions when using precision balancing equipment with the "infrared
scanning and selective measuring procedure".
Accelerate the driven wheels to a maximum of 150 km/h with the automatic transmission selector lever in the "D" position. Then move the lever to "N"
and allow the engine to continue running in neutral. Measure the amount and the location of any imbalance as the driven wheels start to slow down.
Measure
Measuring always takes place at the front axle with 2 measuring supports. To prevent damage to the control arms, precision balancing must only be
carried out using measuring supports and suitable adapters that have been provided by the manufacturer.
