Subject: Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Loose (Replace Retainer)

Condition

Some customers may comment that the driver and/or passenger side windshield pillar garnish molding is loose.

Cause

This condition may be caused by the upper garnish molding retainer tether clip not being fully engaged into the body at the time of assembly. 

Correction

Important
Replace only the service retainer tether clip. Do not replace the windshield pillar garnish molding assembly.

Use the following steps to correct the condition:

1. Remove the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in SI.
2. Remove the upper garnish molding retainer tether clip from the vehicle.
3. Install the new upper garnish molding retainer tether clip to the A pillar.
4. Ensure that the metal clip on the garnish molding is fully seated on the mounting area of the molding.
5. Reattach the tether.
6. Reinstall the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in SI.
7. Verify the fit and security of the molding installation.
