Corrosion on Rear Compartment Lid Lower Edge, Rust-Colored Stains on Rear Bumper (Repair Corrosion, Refinish As Required)

Condition
Some customers may comment about minor corrosion on the lower rear edge of the rear compartment lid, below the chrome trim panel (applique). This
condition may also cause rust-colored stains on the rear bumper painted surface.
Cause
This condition may be caused by paint on the edge of the panel that may have been chipped during the manufacturing process. This can lead to corrosion
and staining on the rear compartment lid and staining on the rear bumper painted surface.
Correction
1. Remove the rear compartment lid applique. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Applique Replacement in SI.
2. Remove any double sided tape or adhesive residue left on the surface of the rear compartment lid.
3. Thoroughly inspect the rear edge of the rear compartment lid for paint chips or corrosion.
4. Clean the corrosion by "sand blasting" or by using 3M(R) Strip Disc*, P/N 07460.

5. Refer to your paint supplier for specific paint systems application instructions.
Note
If the applique was damaged during removal, install a new service part.
6. Reinstall the rear compartment lid applique. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Applique Replacement in SI.
7. Clean the stained area on the painted surface of the rear bumper, if required. Use GM Cleaner Wax, P/N 12377966 (in Canada, P/N 10952905) or
the equivalent.
