Horn: Description and Operation
Description
The horn system consists of a single horn, a horn relay located in the underhood junction block, a driver controlled horn switch in the steering wheel,
and interconnecting wiring. The horn system is designed to provide the driver with an audible warning to signal pedestrians, other drivers, etc.
Operation
Voltage is applied to the horn relay coil and contact at all times through a 10 amp fuse in the underhood junction block. When the driver pushes the
horn pad in the steering wheel, a contact completes the relay coil circuit to ground closing the relay contacts and applying voltage to the horn, emitting an
audible warning.
Horn Assembly And Bracket
The horn operates over a battery input range of 9-14 V at -25°C (-13°F) to 10-15 V at 75°C (167°F).
Relay Assembly
The relay assembly is rated at 35 amps.
The coil resistance is 85 ohms.
Cruise And/Or Horn Slip Riag Assembly
The cruise and/or horn slip ring assembly is located in the steering column.
