EGR Valve: Service and Repair
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve
EGR Replacement.
REMOVAL
1.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2.
Remove the MPI air intake tube and resonator.
3.
Disconnect the vacuum line from the EGR valve.
4.
Remove the EGR attachment nuts and the EGR valve.
CAUTION: The EGR valve should not be soaked in any solvent; otherwise damage to the diaphragm could result.
5.
Remove the gasket and discard.
NOTE: Remove all loose deposits from the EGR inlet passage, otherwise they could clog the EGR valve.
6.
Inspect the intake manifold/cylinder head EGR passages for excessive deposits and remove using a screwdriver or 305-330 mm (12-13 in.) length
of odometer cable.
7.
Remove exhaust deposits from the EGR valve mounting surface and from the EGR valve using a wire brush or wheel.
8.
Clean both EGR valve mounting surfaces and inspect for scoring or cracks.
INSTALLATION
1.
Install new EGR valve gasket.
2.
Install EGR valve.
3.
Install EGR valve attachment nuts.
^ Torque: 25 Nm (19 ft lbs)
4.
Connect the EGR valve vacuum line.
