SUBJECT:
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (SERVICE ENGINE SOON Telltale Lamp) On with PCM/EC DTC 13 Retained in PCM Memory (Repair Oxygen Sensor
Wire)
MODELS AFFECTED:
1994 Saturns equipped with air conditioning (C60) or Retailer installed air conditioning prep kit (C66) built before, and including VIN RZ268961.
CONDITION:
The malfunction indicator lamp (SERVICE ENGINE SOON telltale lamp) is On with PCM/EC diagnostic trouble code (DTC) 13 retained in PCM
memory.
CAUSE:
The wire from the oxygen sensor to the PCM may be incorrectly routed and could be cut by the engine cooling fan blades.
CORRECTION:
Inspect oxygen sensor wire, between rosebud and oxygen sensor, for possible damage. If wire is damaged, repair wire according to the following
procedure. If wire is not damaged, refer to "Electronic Engine Controls Service Manual" for diagnostic procedures.
PROCEDURES
1.
Remove "Rosebud" type retainer on right side of engine cooling fan that retains wire conduit containing wiring harness wire to oxygen sensor
connector.
2.
Disconnect oxygen sensor connector, and remove damaged wire with connector.
3.
Remove insulation from the end of the new oxygen sensor connector kit lead wire. Recommended strip length is 9.5 mm (3/8 in.). Caution must be
used to prevent cutting the wire strands.

4.
Remove insulation from the end of the engine wiring harness wire. Recommended strip length is 9.5 mm (3/8 in.). Caution must be used to prevent
cutting the wire strands.
5.
Position stripped ends, from the oxygen sensor connector kit and the engine wiring harness wire, into Salmon colored crimp and seal sleeve (P/N
12089189), until wires hit the stop in the center of the crimp and seal sleeve.
6.
Hand crimp using the approved crimping tool. Gently tug on wires to make sure they are secure before applying heat to them.
