Alternator: Diagnostic Trouble Code Tests and Associated Procedures

VISUAL INSPECTION:

-

Excessive electrical loads on the vehicle.

-

Constant running of the vehicle at low RPM.

-

Loose or broken accessory drive belt.

-

Loose generator mounting bolts.

-

Fusible link between generator and starter is blown or corroded.

-

Battery cable loose

PERFORM ARBST TEST FOR GENERATOR PERFORMANCE.

SYSTEM PERFORMANCE TEST

Before connecting any test equipment to the generator, make sure:

-

The engine and ignition are off.

-

The accessory drive belt is good and at the right tension.
