3. Remove engine oil drain plug and drain oil into approved container.
4. Remove oil filter assembly from oil filter housing.
5. Grasp filter housing cap with filter element attached and gently tap filter element on recycling container to release filter element into container.

Service Information Regarding Redesigned Oil Filter Element and Oil Filter Cap
PURPOSE: The purpose of this bulletin is to provide service information regarding 1st and 2nd design oil filter elements and oil filter caps available
for the 4-cyl (L61) engine, and how to determine which oil filter and cap combination should be used.
WARNING: If an incorrect oil filter element or oil filter and cap combination is used, severe engine damage may occur.
A change has been made to the oil filter cap and oil filter element assembly to prevent the installation of the V6 (L81) oil filter into the 4-cyl engine
assembly.
When installing a new oil filter element, always attach (snap) the oil filter element onto the oil filter cap assembly before installing the oil filter
assembly into the oil filter housing/block. This will confirm the correct oil filter element and oil filter cap combination is being used.
NOTICE: If the oil filter element does not attach (snap) into the oil filter cap, DO NOT install into the oil filter housing/block or engine damage may
occur. Refer to application chart in this bulletin for correct oil filter cap and oil filter element usage.
