Service Engine Soon (SES) Lamp Illuminated with P0130 and/or P0150 Set in BCM Memory (Install Updated ECM Calibration if Required)
MODELS AFFECTED:
2000 - 2002 Saturn L-Series vehicles equipped with V6 (L81) engines
CONDITION:
Some customers may comment the service engine soon (SES) lamp is illuminated.
CAUSE:
If vehicle was driven and engine shut off before reaching full operating temperature, the ECM calibration may not heat the 02 sensors sufficiently during
the next ignition cycle causing DTC P0130 and/or P0150 to set in ECM memory.
CORRECTION:
To correct this condition refer to the Engine/Emission Controls section of the appropriate model year L-Series L81 Engine Service Manual and follow
the trouble tree and diagnostic aids for DTC P0130 and/or P0150. After diagnosis is complete and any repairs have been completed, refer to the
following procedure to determine if an updated calibration is required.
Before installing new ECM calibration, make sure the Service Stall System (SSS) version is 10.5 or greater.
PROCEDURE:
1.
Connect Scan Tool to the vehicle.
2.
Navigate to the 3.0L (VIN R) menu.
3.
Select ID INFORMATION.
4.
Select ENGINE INFORMATION.
5.
Read ECM CALIBRATION.
On 2000 model year vehicles:

If ECM calibration ID number is one of the following: 610601, 610602, 620101, 620102, 640104, 640301, 640704, or 640901, reprogram the ECM
with the latest 2000 model year calibration available on the Saturn Service Stall System (SSS). (Refer to "Service Programming System [SPS]" in the
Saturn Service Stall [SSS]/Tech 2 User Guide for reprogramming procedures.) This calibration can be found on software CD version 10.5 and
higher.

If ECM calibration is not one of the following ID numbers: 610601, 610602, 620101, 620102, 640104, 640301, 640704, or 640901, do not
reprogram the ECM because the ECM already has a calibration installed to address this condition. Refer to additional diagnostic information in the
"Engine/Emissions Controls" section of the 2000 L-Series L81 Engine Service Manual.
On 2001 model year vehicles:

If ECM calibration ID number is one of the following: 630102, 740104, 740302, 740704, or 40901, reprogram the ECM with the latest 2001 model
year calibration available on the Saturn Service Stall System (SSS). (Refer to "Service Programming System [SPS]" in the Saturn Service Stall
[SSS]/Tech 2 User Guide for reprogramming procedures.) This calibration can be found on software CD version 10.5 and higher.
