SUBJECT: 
Service Wrench Lamp Illuminated With DTC P0731 "Incorrect 1st Gear Ratio" No Symptoms (Install New TCM Calibration)

Due to revised labor operation number, this bulletin has been revised and supersedes bulletin 00-T-32, which should be discarded.

MODELS AFFECTED: 
2000 Saturn L-Series Sedans and Wagons (LS2 and LW2) equipped with V6 (RPO L81) engine and automatic transaxle (RPO MN5)

CONDITION: 
Some customers may comment the service wrench lamp illuminated and no driveability symptoms were present.

CAUSE: 
Condition may exist because the initial DTC P0731 calibration did not allow for all possible normal operating conditions.

CORRECTION:
Install new TCM Calibration 

1.

Before installing the new calibration check for other DTC's or symptoms. (Refer to "Diagnostic Information" in the 2000 Automatic Transaxle
Service Manual.)

Using Scan tool, check the TCM part number on Tech 2. Refer to the TCM Calibrations table shown.

If DTC P0731 calibration is installed, it is not necessary to perform the update. If a trouble code exists (Refer to "Diagnostic Information" in
the 2000 Automatic Transaxle Service Manual.)

If DTC P0731 calibration is not installed, install new calibration. Refer to "Service Programming System (SPS)" in the Saturn Service Stall
System (SSS) User Guide for reprogramming procedures.

To receive credit for this repair during the warranty coverage period, submit a claim through the Saturn Dealer System for K5364 (TCM -
Reprogramming). If another procedure is performed, refer to the appropriate Electronic Labor Time Guide for the correct labor operation code and time.
