Service Engine Soon (SES) Lamp Illuminated with DTC P0135 "HO2S Heater
Circuit Performance Bank 1 Sensor 1" and/or DTC P0155 "HO2S Heater
Performance Bank 2 Sensor 1" (Perform Oxygen Sensor Conditioning
Drive Cycle)

Models Affected:
2000-2004 Saturn L-Series
2002-2003 Saturn VUE
with 3.0L V6 Engine (VIN R - RPO L81)

Attention: Technician

Condition:

Some customers may comment on the SES light illuminating shortly after purchasing the vehicle or following extended periods of storage.

Cause:

This condition may be caused by moisture inside the Heated Oxygen Sensor affecting voltage the ECM monitors to verify sensor operation.

Correction:

Perform the procedure in this bulletin.

Procedure:

Procedure applies to vehicles parked for extended period of time (45 days or more) or vehicles recently sold to customers and that have set P0135 and/or
P0155 only.

1.

Clear DTC P0135/P0155 for front 02 sensor(s).

2.

Warm vehicle to operating temperature. Engine Coolant Temperature to 87°C (188.6°F)

3.

Drive vehicle between 3000-4000 rpm in 2nd gear for 10 minutes to evaporate moisture.

4.

Check DTCs. If front HO2S code returns, repeat the procedure.

5.

If code returns after 2nd drive cycle, replace H025 sensor and clear DTC. Refer to the "Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Replacement Bank 1
Sensor 1" and "Heated Oxygen Sensor (H025) Replacement Bank 2 Sensor 1" procedures in the Engine Controls section located in the appropriate
model year Saturn L-Series or Saturn VUE Engine Service Manual.
