Power Window Motor: Description and Operation
Power Windows

General Information

The power window system is designed to open and close all of the windows from the two power window master switch assemblies located in the console.

The rear door windows may be controlled from switches located in each rear door. The left rear door switch will operate only the left rear window, and
the right rear door switch will operate only the right rear window. The rear window door switches can also be disabled from the left power window
master switch assembly on the left side of the center console.

The two main power window switches are located on the left and on the right side of the center console. The driver window switch, located on the left
side of the center console, contains three switches: One switch each for control of the two left windows and one rear window lockout switch to enable or
disable the rear window switches. The window switch on the right side of the center console contains two switches for control of the tow right windows.
The switches that control each of the windows are push-pull switches and the switch to enable or disable the rear window switches is a rocker button.

The system consists of a relay, two power window master switch assemblies, two single power window switch assemblies, four window motors and
related wiring harnesses.

The power window system is operational only when the ignition switch is in the RUN position. For the rear window door switches to be operational, the
rear window lockout switch must also be in the enable (On) position.

Driver's Window

The driver's power window switch is located in the power window master switch assembly. When the power window switch, for the driver's window is
put in the up position, the driver's window motor operates to raise the window until either the power window switch is released or the circuit breaker
located within the motor assembly disables the motor.

The driver's window has a two-position down power window switch, with the second position used to provide an EXPRESS DOWN feature. When the
driver's power window switch is placed in the first down position (before passing the detent) the window operates in the same manner as the front
passenger's window. When the driver's power window switch is momentarily pressed to the second down position (past the detent), it latches in that
position and the corresponding motor operates to lower the window to the full-down position regardless of whether the operator continues to apply force
to the power window switch. The motor deactivates when either the power window switch is momentarily moved toward the up position or by the
express down function. The express down latch position releases within 5 seconds by a built in timer.

Passenger's Window

The passenger's power window switch is located in the power window master switch assembly. When the power window switch, for the passenger's
window is put in the up position, the passenger's window motor operates to raise the window until either the switch is released or the circuit breaker
located within the motor assembly disables the motor. When the power window switch, for the passenger's window is put in the down position, the
passenger's window motor operates to lower the window until either the switch is released or the circuit breaker located within the motor assembly
disables the motor.

Rear Door Windows

The rear door power window motors are activated by both the power window switches on the power window master control switch assembly and also by
individual power window switches on the rear doors.

The left power window master switch assembly has a rear window lockout switch which disables the rear power window switches from operating. The
rear door power window switches, located in the power window master switch assemblies operate the same regardless of the position of the rear window
lockout switch.

When a power window switch, in one of the power window master switch assemblies, is put in the up position, the corresponding power window motor
operates to raise the window until either the switch is released or the circuit breaker located within the motor assembly disables the motor. When a power
window switch, in the power window master switch assembly, is put in the down position, the corresponding power window motor operates to lower the
window until either the switch is released or the circuit breaker located within the motor assembly disables the motor. When the rear window lockout
switch is in the disable (OFF) position, both of the rear door power window switches are disabled, preventing rear window operation from the rear
window switches. When the rear window lockout switch is in the enable (ON) position and a rear door power window switch is put in either the up or
down position, the power window for that particular switch raises or lowers, accordingly, until the switch is released or the circuit breaker located within
the motor assembly disables the motor.

When the rear window lockout switch is in the enable (ON) position and both a rear door power window switch and the master switch for the same
power window are placed in the down position at the same time the result will be the same as when only one switch is in the down position.

When the rear window lockout switch is in the enable (ON) position and both a rear door power window switch and the master switch for the same
power window are placed in the up position at the same time the result will be the same as when only one switch is in the up position.

When the rear window lockout switch is in the enable (ON) position and both a rear door power window switch and the master switch for the same
window are placed in opposite directions the corresponding power window motor will not be actuated.
