False PCM/TC Information Flags 61 and 62 (check for PCM Codes, Replace PCM Only If Required)

CONDITION:

When diagnosing a transaxle complaint, PCM/TC Information Flags 61 and 62 may be stored in memory.

NOTE: Information Flags do not cause the SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator lamp to illuminate.

CAUSE:

If Information Flags 61 and 62 are both set, they may have been caused by cycling the ignition from On to Off, and back On within
three seconds. When the ignition key is turned Off the PCM/TC goes through a power down sequence that lasts approximately
three seconds. If this procedure becomes interrupted, PCM/TC Flags 61 and 62 may set.

CORRECTIVE
ACTION:

If a vehicle is brought in with the SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator lamp illuminated, perform PCM diagnostics for the Codes
obtained according to procedures in the "Electronic Engine Controls Service Manual." After performing the diagnostic procedures
and repairing any problems, perform the procedures in this bulletin.

NOTE: If the PCM contains PCM/EC Code 82 and PCM/TC Information Flags 61 and 62, replace the PCM.

If a vehicle is brought in for a transaxle concern that does not turn on the SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator lamp, perform PCM
diagnostics. If PCM/TC Information Flags 61 and 62 are obtained perform the following procedure.

PROCEDURE:

1.  Clear all PCM Codes.

2.

Turn ignition Off for five seconds.

3.

Turn ignition On.

4.

Check the PCM for Codes and/or Information Flags.

5.

If Information Flag 61 and/or 62 are obtained, replace the PCM.

6.

If Information Flags 61 and/or 62 did not reset, the codes were set as described in the "Cause" section of this bulletin, and the
customer's concerns should be corrected.
