Rear License Plate Rattles when Closing Rear Compartment Lid (install License Plate Bumper)
Due to the addition of model years, this bulletin supercedes 98-T-04, which should be discarded.
MODELS AFFECTED:
1996-1999 Saturn Sedans and 1997-1999 Saturn Coupes
CONDITION:
When the rear compartment lid is closed, the rear license plate may hit against the center of the rear compartment lid lower outer panel, causing a rattle.
CAUSE:
No support or bumper for bottom center of rear license plate.
CORRECTION:
Install additional rear license plate bumper to rear compartment lid lower outer panel according to the procedure in this bulletin.
PROCEDURE:
1.
Remove rear license plate from vehicle.

If the vehicle is an SL2 Sedan, the hole is pre-drilled and no drilling is required. Proceed to step 5 and install rear license plate bumper.

If the vehicle is an SL1 Sedan, or SC1 or SC2 Coupe, drilling a new hole is required. Proceed to the next step.
