Brakes - Pedal Pulsation/Vibration, Slowing of Vehicle
BULLETIN NO.: 93-T-13
ISSUE DATE: March, 1993
GROUP/SEQ. NO.: Chassis-02
CORPORATION NO.: 385002
SUBJECT:
Slight Brake Drag Resulting in Brake Pedal Pulsation, Vehicle Vibration and/or Roughness, Slowing of Vehicle and/or Reduced Fuel Economy, Caused
by a Misadjusted Stop Lamp (Brake Light/Cruise Control) Switch (Adjust Switch)
Models Affected
1991, 1992 and 1993 Saturns
Condition and Cause
CONDITION:
Some customers may comment of:
^
Noticeable slowing of vehicle and/or reduced fuel economy
^
Brake pulsation, noise, vibration or roughness during apply
^
Vehicle vibration, roughness or noise
^
Noticeable brake odor when stopped
^
Increased brake pedal travel during apply
^
Increased brake pedal effort during apply
These conditions may be caused by a lack of full brake pedal return and slight brake drag.
The stop lamp switch on some vehicles may be misadjusted preventing full return of the brake pedal arm when the brake pedal is released, resulting in a
partial apply of the brake system and slight brake drag.
Corrective Action
A new procedure and gauge have been developed to provide a more positive stop lamp switch adjustment. If a misadjusted stop lamp switch is
discovered, the switch should be adjusted and the brake system inspected, and corrected if necessary, according to the procedures in this bulletin.
I. Stop Lamp Switch Adjustment Check
1.
Install stop lamp switch adjustment gauge (SA 9303BR) between the switch and the switch actuator pad on the brake pedal arm being sure that the
plunger protrudes through the slot in the gauge.
