Dimmer Switch: Component Tests and General Diagnostics

Component Testing - Coupe - Park/Marker/License/Tail/Dim Illuminations Lamps

BULBS

Visually inspect the bulb. Check the resistance through the bulb.

Repair as needed.

If this component is good, go to the next item indicated on the chart.

TAILLAMP ASSEMBLIES

Visually inspect the lamp assembly. Check resistance through the connector and pigtail.

Repair as needed.

If this component is good, go to the next item indicated on the chart.

HEADLAMP SWITCH

Check switch resistance.

Switch resistance:

Pin F to Pin K in:

Off

Open

Doors Open

Open

Park

Less than 1 ohm

Headlamp

Less than 1 ohm

Repair as needed.

I/P DIMMER

Check switch resistance.

Switch resistance:

Dim

Greater than 8 ohms

Medium

3 - 7 ohms

Bright

Less than 2 ohms

Repair as needed.

STOP LAMP SWITCH (BRAKE SWITCH)

Check connections and terminals for damage, tightness, or corrosion.

Check switch resistance:

Pin A or B (Gray connector) to Pin C or D (Black connector).

Switch resistance: OPEN when brake not depressed. Less than one ohm when brake depressed.

FLASHER MODULE

Refer to chart for diagnosis.
