Electronic Brake Control Module: Description and Operation
The antilock brake system (ABS) module (used on vehicle with antilock brake system [ABS] only), controls the ANTILOCK indicator lamp, and is one
of three inputs that control the brake indicator lamp.
NOTICE: The ANTILOCK brake indicator lamp is only on the base and up-level clusters.)
It controls the ANTILOCK brake indicator lamp by supplying an 8.0 volt (nominal [6.2 volt minimum]) input signal, through a resistor, located in the
instrument cluster. This input signal drives an NPN transistor in the instrument cluster allowing current to flow through the bulb. If this input is open
when ignition voltage is present, the ANTILOCK brake indicator lamp illuminates. The ABS module turns on the ANTILOCK brake indicator if it
senses a possible problem in the electronics of the antilock brake system. The red brake indicator is turned on if the ABS module senses a possible
problem in the mechanical function of the brake system.
