SIR Coil Assembly: Service and Repair
Remove or Disconnect
REMOVAL
1. Position vehicle with front wheels pointed straight ahead and steering wheel centered in the straight ahead position.
NOTICE: Always align the front wheels to the straight-ahead position when installing or removing a coil assembly. If a coil is removed without the
wheels in the straight-ahead position and the steering wheel has not been moved, the same coil can be reinstalled if the coil hub has not been rotated.
2. Disable the SIR system. (Refer to "Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming.")
3. Remove steering wheel.
4. Remove screws and upper steering column shroud.
5. Rotate key to ACC position, depress lock button and remove ignition cylinder assembly.
6. Remove screws and lower steering column cover.
7. Remove SIR coil assembly rosebud-type fastener from bracket below steering column.
8. Disconnect horn/cruise in-line connector under steering column.
9. Remove screws from SIR coil assembly.
10. Unroute SIR coil pigtail from behind lever control switch. Remove SIR coil assembly.
