Compass Display Flashing "C" Intermittently (Reprogram Instrument Panel Cluster)
Models:
2008 Chevrolet Captiva Sport
2008 Saturn VUE
with 2.4L L4 Engine (VIN P - RPO LE5), 3.5L V6 Engine (VIN N - RPO LZ4) or 3.6L V6 Engine (VIN 7 - RPO LY7)
Attention:
If the vehicle is a 2.4L 4 - cylinder, prior to following the procedures in this bulletin, check the VIN using GMVIS for application of Customer
Satisfaction Bulletin # 08261 "Change Engine Oil Light Inoperative-Reprogram Instrument Panel Cluster." If the vehicle qualifies for Customer
Satisfaction Bulletin # 08261, and it has not been completed, do not continue with this bulletin. Instead, perform Customer Satisfaction Bulletin #
08261.
Condition
Some customers may comment that the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) compass reverts to a flashing "C" display intermittently.
Cause
This condition may be caused by a software anomaly that results in a loss of directional display with the IPC compass.
Correction
Important:
Select the correct operating system or calibration file using the vehicle's RPO codes. Different calibrations are available for: RPOs LE5, LZ4/LY7
FWD and LZ4/LY7 AWD.
A revised calibration has been developed to address this condition. Technicians are to reprogram the IPC using the Service Programming System (SPS)
with the latest software available on TIS2WEB. Refer to the Instrument Cluster Programming and Setup procedures in SI. As always, make sure your
Tech 2(R) is updated with the latest software version.
