Interior - Ticking/Tapping Noise From Headliner

Itch or Tick/Tap Noise Coming from Headliner (Add Flocking Tape to Roof or Hot Glue to Headliner)

2008-2009 Chevrolet Captiva Sport
2008-2009 Saturn VUE
Condition # 1
Some customers may comment on an itch noise coming from the headliner in the area above the driver near the overhead console.
Cause # 1
The noise may be the result of the forward headliner wiring harness contacting the roof panel inner structure.
Correction # 1
1. Remove the overhead console from the headliner. Refer to Overhead Console Replacement in SI.
2. Apply flocking tape to the roof structure above the harness at the left side of the console opening shown above (1). Use Kent Automotive Flocking
Tape, P/N 13486, or equivalent.
3. Reinstall the overhead console. Refer to Overhead Console Replacement in SI.
Condition # 2
Some customers may comment about a tick/tap noise coming from the headliner in the area overhead the driver and near the sun visor.
Cause # 2
The forward wiring harness (1), which is glued to the headliner, may become slightly/partially unsecured. Driving the vehicle may initiate a quick
reattachment, then detachment of the glue material, resulting in the tick/tap noise.
Correction # 2
Notice
Take care to not bend or form a crease in the headliner while performing the following steps.
1. It is only necessary to lower the headliner. Only perform the steps in the headliner replacement procedure that will lower the headliner enough to
gain access to the forward headliner harness. Refer to Headlining Trim Panel Replacement in SI.
