Gear-change mechanism: adjustment
Gear-change mechanism: adjustment
  Note!
t  To adjust the gear-change mechanism correctly, the following points should be obeyed:
t  The four wheels of the vehicle should be totally supporting it on the ground or in a parallel lift.
t  All of the components of the gear-change mechanism should be in perfect condition.
t  The gear-change mechanism should be smooth and not at all stiff.
t  The gearbox, clutch operation and clutch should be in perfect condition.
t  If the gear-change mechanism has been repaired, go through all the gears twice and leave the gear lever in neutral.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Tool for adjusting the gear lever -U-40026-
  W00-2200
t  Clamp pliers (with tightening torque) -T20072-
Vehicles with centre console
–  Remove the hood from the mounting, from the centre console → Body interior assembly work; Rep. Gr.68.
–  Turn the hood inside out and remove the gear lever knob by loosening the clamp.
Vehicles without centre console
–  Loosen the hood from the mounting.
–  Turn the hood inside out and remove the gear lever knob by loosening the clamp.

–  The adjusting cam of the gear lever -A- should face the reverse gear hook -arrow-.
–  Put the gear lever in neutral.

–  Without forcing it, put tool -U-40026- between the lug of the selector box casing and the reverse gear link.
  Note!
Tool -U-40026- should not get stuck nor jammed.
If the tool can be attached as shown without getting stuck or jammed, make the fine adjustment → Chapter.
If the tool cannot be attached as shown without getting stuck nor jammed, carry out the following:
–  Put the gear lever in neutral.
  E34-0114
–  Loosen the clamp -arrow- and separate the drag link from the elbow toe.
–  Check that the drag link can slide freely inside the elbow toe.
–  Without forcing it, put tool -U-40026- between the lug of the selector box casing and the reverse gear link.
–  Assemble the drag link in the elbow toe and tighten the clamp.
–  Remove tool -U-40026-.
–  Make the fine adjustment.
