Adjusting input gear
Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1332-
  W00-0428
t  Measurement bridge -VW 382/7-
Prerequisites:
–  Engage parking lock.
  W00-0511
–  Tighten socket head fastener to 100 Nm without dished washer and without shim.
A - Torque wrench
B - 22 mm socket
–  Remove socket head fastener.
  V39-1406
–  Measure distance between input gear and taper roller bearing inner race.
–  Insert dial gauge and set to “0” with 3 mm preload. Note measured value (example 1.00 mm).
The thickness of the dished washer 1.50 mm must be added to the reading of 1.00 mm, result = 2.50 mm.
Determining thickness of shim
The specified bearing preload is achieved if the bearing preload of 0.18 mm is deducted from the figure obtained from the measurement (dished washer + reading) of 2.50 mm.
Example:
  V39-1407
Dished washer + reading2.50 mm
- Bearing preload0.18 mm
= Thickness of shim2.32 mm

–  Determine shim on the basis of the table and fit onto drive shaft. Table of shims → .
–  Insert axial needle bearing and tighten socket head fastener including dished washer to 250 Nm.
Insert axial needle bearing for input shaft before tightening socket head fastener. Installation position → Chapter „Removing and installing input gear“.
