The drive shaft does not need to be removed for removing and installing the differential.
1 - Nut, 25 Nm
q   Qty. 2.
2 - Bolt, 25 Nm
3 - Torque converter housing
q   Is allocated to gearbox housing according to engine version.
q   Replacement parts are allocated according to gearbox code letters → Electronic parts catalogue “ETKA”.
4 - Sleeve
q   To centralise the gearbox and torque converter housing.
5 - Gearbox housing
q   Before assembling gearbox and converter housing, apply -AMV 188 200- to sealing surfaces.
6 - Breather pipe
q   Removing with pliers.
q   Driving onto stop with drift -VW 460/2-.
7 - Breather cap
8 - Flange shaft
q   Removing with -VW 771-.
q   Driving in with plastic hammer.
9 - Circlip
q   Always renewing.
q   Removing and installing → Fig..
10 - Flange shaft oil seal
q   Before installing, half-fill space between sealing lips with sealing grease -G 052 128 A1-.
q   Can be renewed with gearbox installed → Chapter.
q   Removing with -VW 681-.
q   Driving in → Fig..
11 - Differential
q   Dismantling and assembling → Chapter.
12 - Bolt, 20 Nm
q   Checking gear oil with gearbox installed → Chapter.

   
Removing and installing circlip
–  Clamp flange shaft in vice with protective jaw covers.
–  Use new circlip -A- to press old circlip out of groove in flange shaft.

Driving oil seal in onto stop with -VW 195-
–  Half-fill space between sealing lip and dust lip with grease -G 052 128 A1-.
