Removing

Installation position of locking cable 1 -  Steering lock 2 -  Heater unit 3 -  Support bracket –  First check whether a coded radio is fitted. In this case, obtain anti-theft code. –  Move selector lever to “P” position. –  With the ignition switched off, disconnect the battery earth strap. –  Remove driver airbag unit and steering wheel → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.69. –  Remove steering column trim → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.70. –  Remove selector lever handle → Chapter. –  Remove centre console trim → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.68.

–  Remove connector -1- of printed circuit board. –  Pull frame -arrows- with cover and printed circuit board up and off selector mechanism. –  Remove centre console → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.68. Vehicles before 06.01

–  Unscrew bolt on support bracket -arrow- of locking cable.

–  Pull locking cable forwards -arrow 1-. –  Then unhook locking cable upwards -arrow 2- and pull off locking lever. Vehicles after 07.01

–  Unscrew bolt on support bracket -arrow- of locking cable.

–  Push clip -1- upwards -arrow 2- and keep it pressed upwards. –  With clip -1- pressed upwards, pull locking cable -3- outwards -arrow 4-. When doing this, pull locking cable -3- out of mounting -5- and pull off locking lever -6-. Continuation for all vehicles –  Remove both front seats with rails → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.72. –  Remove trim and handle for handbrake lever → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.68. –  Remove handbrake lever and lay to side; do not loosen cable connection and handbrake cable. –  Pull up floor covering on driver and front passenger side. Fasteners of floor covering near front seats will be destroyed during removal and must be renewed.

–  Remove reinforcement strut beneath dash panel -arrows-. –  Cut through floor covering in front of reinforcement strut. –  Remove vent for rear duct → Heating, air conditioning; Rep. Gr.80. –  Remove rear duct → Heating, air conditioning; Rep. Gr.80. –  Turn ignition key to ignition on position. –  Move selector lever to “P” position.

–  Pull out clip -2- for locking cable -3-. –  Pull locking cable out of steering lock -1-. –  Pull the locking cable out of the dash panel.
