  Note!
t  If one of the propshaft tubes is damaged, the entire propshaft need not be renewed. The respective propshaft tube can be renewed separately.
t  Removing, installing or renewing parts of the propshaft can lead to imbalances which have a negative effect on smooth running.
t  Keep propshaft straight; store and transport fully extended only. Do not clamp in vice.
t  Before dismantling, mark positions of all parts relative to each other. Assemble in same position; otherwise an imbalance may be created which causes damage to bearing and rumbling noises.
t  Individual propshaft tubes are balanced. To keep imbalance of the entire propshaft as small as possible, observe markings during installation → Chapter.

Identification of propshaft tubes
Propshaft tubes are marked with a spot of paint on the flanges.
–  If individual parts of propshaft tubes are to be removed, first transfer spot of paint to tube.
–  When bolting propshaft tubes together, line up spots of paint, dot to dot.
This will ensure that imbalance present will be kept to a minimum in the entire propshaft.

Pressing off constant velocity joint
  V39-1045
Pressing on constant velocity joint
–  Press on carefully.
–  Tighten tensioner -V.A.G 40-204A- securely. Propshaft must not be pushed down within tensioner -V.A.G 40-204A-, or paintwork will be damaged.
–  Repair possible paint damage as follows: remove residual grease or oil with nitro thinner -L 001 600-. Apply 2 component acrylic paint -ALN 769 041- with hardener -ALZ 009 001-.
