Removing –  Remove noise insulation tray. –  Mark position of propshaft relative to bevel box flange.

–  Unbolt propshaft from bevel box flange -arrows-. –  Disconnect right drive shaft from gearbox. –  Tie up drive shaft as high as is possible. Take care not to damage paint on drive shaft in the process. –  Separate exhaust system behind front exhaust pipe. → Rep. Gr.26 –  If present, remove exhaust system bracket from subframe.

–  Remove pendulum support from subframe -arrow-. Vehicles with 6-cylinder engine –  Remove front exhaust pipe. → Rep. Gr.26

–  Unbolt earth strap -1- from retainer -2-. –  Remove bracket -2- from starter. –  Pull pressure hose -3- off motor for secondary air pump -5-. –  Pull connector -4- off motor for secondary air pump -5-. –  Remove motor for secondary air pump -V101- from bracket -6-. –  Unbolt bracket for secondary air pump from engine -arrows-. → Rep. Gr.26 Continuation for all vehicles –  Then remove cowling with fans. → Rep. Gr.19

–  Secure tensioning strap -T10038- to front towing eye and to pendulum support. –  Carefully pull engine and gearbox forwards. Vehicles with turbo diesel engine

–  Unbolt vacuum unit -1- for charge air control valve from turbocharger -arrows- and tie up. → Rep. Gr.21 –  Place drip tray under gearbox and engine. –  Unbolt turbocharger oil return line -2- from engine → Rep. Gr.21.

–  Unbolt bevel box carrier from engine and bevel box (-A- and -B-). Vehicles with 6-cylinder engine

–  Unbolt bevel box carrier from engine and bevel box (-A- and -B-). Continuation for all vehicles –  Place drip tray -V.A.G 1306- under gearbox.

–  Remove oil drain plug -arrow-. –  Drain gear oil from bevel box. –  Lever out sealing cover in right flange shaft, if present, with a screwdriver.   Note! Sealing cover will not be reinstalled and therefore does not need to be renewed.

–  Remove right flange shaft bolt with socket -T10107 A-. –  Remove bevel box/gearbox connecting bolts (Qty. 4) -arrows-. –  Press bevel box off gearbox. –  Remove bevel box. Secure right flange shaft against falling.
