Removing
Removing
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted. If so, obtain anti-theft code.
–  With ignition switched off, disconnect earth strap of battery → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27.
   
–  Remove air duct trim -1--arrows-.
–  Remove battery trim -2-.
–  Pull connector off coolant expansion tank.
–  Unbolt coolant expansion tank and place to side. Do not open cooling system.
–  Remove battery and battery tray → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27.

–  Pull locking mechanisms on gate selector cable and gear selector cable forward to stop -direction of arrow 1- and then turn to left to lock -direction of arrow 2-.

–  Remove both cables from support bracket on gearbox. To do this, turn quick-release connector in -direction of arrow- and pull cables upwards out of support bracket.
–  Separate exhaust system, remove catalytic converter and remove front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold or turbocharger. → Repair group 26; Removing and installing parts of exhaust system
–  Remove front propshaft → Chapter.
–  Remove front heat shield above exhaust pipe. → Repair group 26; Removing and installing parts of exhaust system

Gear selector cable -A- and gate selector cable -B- must be visible.
  Note!
If heat shield cannot be pushed back, remove catalytic converter and front heat shield → Rep. Gr.26.

–  Unscrew nuts from selector housing -arrows-.
–  Remove both front seats with rails → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.72.

–  Carefully lever cover off centre console -arrows 1- and -arrows 2-.
–  Pull cover upwards off centre console.

–  Then destroy clamp -arrow- and pull off selector lever knob with cover.
–  Remove centre console → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.68.

–  Lever securing clips -arrows- off support bracket on gearbox housing.

–  Remove securing clip from gear selector cable -A- and gate selector cable -B-. To do this, raise tab using screwdriver -arrow 1- and press off securing clip -arrow 2-.
–  Remove gear selector cable -A- from selector lever retainer.
–  Remove gate selector cable -B- from retainer of gate selector lever.
–  Remove selector lever housing with selector lever.

–  Remove reinforcement strut beneath dash panel -arrows-.
–  Remove trim and handle for handbrake lever → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.68.
–  Remove handbrake lever and lay to side; do not loosen cable connection and handbrake cable → Brake systems; Rep. Gr.46.
–  Pull up floor covering on driver and front passenger side.
  Note!
Fasteners near front seats will be destroyed during removal and must be renewed.
–  Remove vent for rear duct → Heating, air conditioning; Rep. Gr.80.
–  Remove rear duct → Heating, air conditioning; Rep. Gr.80.

–  Unbolt retaining plate for both cables from floor pan -arrows-.
–  Carefully pull both cables out into passenger compartment.
