Removal:
Removal:
–  Remove knob with gear lever cover → Chapter.
–  Remove central console → Bodywork, interior fitting work; Rep. gr.68.
   
–  Undo the nuts -arrows-.
–  Disconnect the battery earth strap.

Observe the safety measures to be adopted when disconnecting the battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr. 27
–  Remove engine cover → Booklet101.
–  Remove the air filter body, breather hose and air duct hoses → Rep. gr.24 and → Rep. gr.23 .
–  Remove the battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.

–  Remove battery tray -arrows- and remove from vehicle.
–  Remove the safety washer -3- that secures the connector cable to gear selector mechanism -1-.
–  Pull gear selector cable off pin.

Metal idler rod
–  Remove the safety washer -4- that secures the selector cable to idler rod -2-.
–  Remove the selector cable from the pivot.
Plastic idler rod:
  N34-1469
Releasing cable end-piece from gate selector cable
–  Pull the safety mechanism forwards, towards -arrow 1- and to its limit, then block it by turning it to the right, in the direction of -arrow 2-.
–  Then press the idler rod forwards, towards -arrow 3-.
Continued for all selector mechanisms

–  Remove the gearbox -arrows- the support for control cables; if necessary, detach the hose -A- from the support -B-.
–  Remove the rear part of the exhaust system and release the front from the subframe → Rep. gr.26

–  Remove front crossbar from vehicle underbody -arrows-.

–  Release clips -arrows- and remove heat shield together with gear selector mechanism.
