Top up gear oil Special tools and workshop equipment required

t  Torque wrench -VAG 1331-

t  Filler device for Haldex coupling -VAS 6291A- t  Adapter -VAS 6291/2-

t  In the case of some oil bottles, the adapter -VAS 6262/6- must be used as well.

Requirement: l  Bevel box must be in installation position. –  Use filler device for Haldex coupling -VAS 6291A- to top up with oil: –  Route filler device for Haldex coupling -VAS 6291A- outwards behind the right drive shaft and via the right wheel housing.   Note

Cover area beneath oil filler plug -arrow- with a cloth. –  Remove oil filler plug -arrow- from bevel box.

–  Screw in adapter -A- = adapter -VAS 6291/2- to stop.

–  An Allen key can be used for this. -Arrow- = Allen key, 5 mm, commercially available. –  Engage elbow -B- in adapter -A- (⇒ previous Fig.). l  Hose must not sag.

–  Ensure that valve -arrow- is closed. –  Connect oil reservoir -A- to the filler device for Haldex coupling -VAS 6291A-. –  Now open valve -arrow- and hold oil reservoir as shown in figure. Bevel box will now be filled. –  Lift the vehicle for a few minutes.   Note

t  If bevel box has been properly filled, oil will have run out at adapter -A-. t  If no oil has drained out, lower the vehicle and repeat the filling process again. –  Raise vehicle. –  If oil has run out at adapter -A-, set oil reservoir aside (e.g. on a tool cart). Part of the excess oil will now run back into the oil reservoir.

–  When oil stops flowing back, remove the filler device for Haldex coupling -VAS 6291A-, to do so, press catch in -direction of arrow -. –  Unscrew adapter -VAS 6291/2-. –  Note that there is still oil in the hose of the filler device -VAS 6291-.

–  Screw in new oil filler plug -arrow-. –  Tighten plug for oil filler hole to specified torque → Chapter. l  If oil should get on bevel box and other components, carefully remove it. –  Install noise insulation → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.50.
