Removal:

–  Put the gear selector lever into position „S“. –  Switch ignition OFF. –  Remove the selector lever control cable -2- from the lever of the selection shaft using the removal lever -80 - 200-. –  Pull off securing clip -1- for selector lever cable (selector lever cable remains in installation position). Engines 1.4 l - 110 kW TSI and 1.4 l - 132 kW TSI –  Remove the front section (catalytic converter) of the exhaust system →  4 Cyl.Injection engine (1.4 l, 4 direct-injection valves, turbo and rotary piston compressor); Rep. gr. 26 Engine 1.6 l - 77 kW SRE –  Remove the front section of the exhaust system →  4 Cyl.Injection engine(1.6 l. 4V, Chain transfer); Rep. gr. 26 All vehicles (continued): –  Remove the front section of the exhaust system on the undercarriage.

–  Loosen the nuts on the inside -arrow- of the left and right undercarriage of the vehicle. –  Unfasten bolted joints of clamp -2- and disconnect exhaust system.

–  Loosen clips -arrows- and detach heat shield towards rear.

–  Remove bolts -arrows- and detach cover. –  Slide the cover and the protective sheath over the selector lever cable forward. The protective sheath must not be damaged.

–  Unscrew bolts -arrows-.   Caution Electric components on retaining frame can be damaged by electrostatic discharge. Do not touch printed circuit -B- with bare hands.   Note The printed circuit can only be renewed together with the shift unit! –  Unclip retaining tabs on both sides and detach detent plate -A- from shift unit.

–  Pull locking plate -1- securing selector lever cable to shift unit downwards and remove. –  Pull plastic retaining spring -2- forwards slightly and press pin -3- upwards only as far as necessary -arrow-.   Note t  This operation may only be carried out when the selector lever is in position „S“. t  Make sure the bolt does not come out completely. –  Pull selector lever cable -4- out of shift unit.   Note Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.
