With ignition switched off, connect tester -VAS 5051- to diagnostic connection with diagnostic cable -VAS 5051/1- or -VAS 5051/3-.

Switch on tester.
Tester now needs up to 3 minutes to start up.

Switch on ignition.

Select operating mode: Press button for “vehicle self-diagnosis” on display.

Select vehicle system: Select “02 - Gearbox electronics” on display.
–
Select diagnostic function: All diagnostic functions are available at this point.
–
Select “08 - Read measured value block” on display.
–
Press button for “basic setting” on display and continue to display zone for ATF temperature.
The following detailed test sequences are described for the fault reader -V.A.G 1551-.

Connect fault reader -V.A.G 1551-, enter address word “02 Gearbox electronics” and advance until “Select function XX” is indicated on display → Automatic gearbox 099 - 4-speed; Rep. Gr.01.

The ATF temperature should not be more than approx. 30 °C at the start of the test.

Start engine.

Raise vehicle.
–
Place drip tray under gearbox.

Bring ATF to test temperature.
Test temperature: 35 °C to 45 °C
Read measured value block 5 ->
30 °C 0011011 0 900 rpm

Remove ATF inspection plug from oil pan.
The ATF present in the overflow pipe -arrow 2- runs out.
If ATF drips out of bore:
ATF does not need topping up.

Fit new oil seal to plug -arrow 1- and tighten to 15 Nm. This completes the ATF check.
Plug -arrow 3- and cap -arrow 4- remain closed.
