Installing > < Removing and installing selector lever cable

Removing
Removing
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted. In this case, obtain anti-theft code.
–  Move selector lever to “P” position.
–  With the ignition switched off, disconnect the battery earth strap.
   
–  Press selector lever cable lock -arrows 1- together and pull selector lever cable up out of support bracket.
–  Then pull selector lever cable -1- upwards off selector shaft lever -2--arrow 2-.
–  Remove middle heat shield above exhaust pipe.
–  Unfasten front heat shield above exhaust pipe and push it back.
  Note!
If heat shield cannot be pushed back, remove catalytic converter and front heat shield → Rep. Gr.26.
–  Remove selector lever handle → Chapter.
–  Remove centre console trim → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.68.

–  Remove connector -1- of printed circuit board.
–  Pull frame -arrows- with cover and printed circuit board up and off selector mechanism.
–  Remove centre console → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.68.

–  Unscrew bolt -arrow 1- for selector lever cable.
–  Press selector lever cable lock -arrows 2- together and pull selector lever cable up out of support bracket.
–  Remove both front seats with rails → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.72.
–  Remove trim and handle for handbrake lever → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.68.
–  Remove handbrake lever and lay to side; do not loosen cable connection and handbrake cable.
–  Pull up floor covering on driver and front passenger side.
  Note!
Fasteners near front seats will be destroyed during removal and must be renewed.

–  Remove reinforcement strut beneath dash panel -arrows-.
–  Cut through floor covering in front of reinforcement strut.
–  Remove vent for rear duct → Heating, air conditioning; Rep. Gr.80.
–  Remove rear duct → Heating, air conditioning; Rep. Gr.80.

–  Unbolt retaining plate for selector lever cable from floor pan -arrows-.
–  Carefully pull selector lever cable out into passenger compartment.
