Adapting (synchronising) keys with remote control > 04.01
A key must be configured when replacing a defective key with remote control or when several keys (up to a maximum of four) are to used for the vehicle.
Synchronisation may also be necessary if the vehicle does not lock or unlock when the remote control buttons are pressed, or the respective faults appear when the measured value block is read. It may be the case that the key code no longer matches the control unit code. This can happen if the key's sender button is frequently pressed outside the system's effective range.
The vehicle key(s) must then be resynchronised. The synchronisation process should not take longer than 15 seconds.
If the vehicle has electric windows, synchronisation is only possible when the windows are closed.
–  Insert key into door lock and turn key three times upwards (unlocking direction).
–  The key must be held in the unlock state for 0.5 seconds within any 5 second period.
–  Remove key from door lock, push and hold down lock button on key.
–  Press open button three times, then release close button.
The send LED on the key flashes five times for verification.
The control light in the door trim of the driver's door responds to the initialisation code of the control unit by flashing five times itself.
The key has been reconfigured.
The first key must be synchronised within 15 seconds.
Up to three other keys can be configured. They must each be synchronised within 15 seconds immediately after the door trim light has begun to flash in acknowledgement.
Do so by carrying out the last two steps of the synchronisation procedure.
Uncoded keys can be obtained from the Kassel spare parts program. These keys must be initialised for the immobiliser using the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system -VAS 5051B- and then be synchronised.
  Note
t  If new or additional keys are required they must be configured with the immobilizer control electronics and the multifunction unit.
t  The matching procedure must always be carried out for all the keys, including the existing ones.
  WARNING
The dealership number (workshop code) of the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system -VAS 5051B- will be stored in immobilizer control unit when keys are adapted.
Key configuration is automatically terminated when:
t  The maximum number of keys (four) to be configured is reached.
t  A key is used to manually lock the vehicle. (Initialisation mode can be aborted).
t  Permissible matching period of 15 seconds is exceeded (fault is stored).
