Mecatronic unit for the asemi-automatic gearbox -J743 -: dismounting
–  Raise vehicle. All 4 supports of lifting platform must be at same height.
–  Put the gear selector lever into position „P“.
   
–  With ignition switched off, disconnect earth connection -arrow- from the battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27.

–  Remove central soundproofing, bolts -1 ... 3-.

–  If fitted, remove the hose joining the intercooler and the booster air pipe → Intercooler ystem; Rep. gr.21.
  Note
It is possible that parts having nothing to do with the mechatronic unit must be removed. This depends on the vehicle's equipment. This will create enough space to remove the mechatronic unit.

t  Depending on the vehicle, these parts may include, for example,
t  Radiator fan support
t  Additional lines for air conditioner
t  Charge air or air cooling pipes

–  To unlock and remove the plug connection of the mechatronics -1-, turn the catch of the plug connection.

Disregarding of -item A-.

–  Unscrew the cable bracket from the gearbox cover (on the front side).
–  Raise lines near cover and tie.
–  Place the oil extractor -SAT 1100- below the gearbox.
  Caution
Some oil will run out of the cover when the screws are removed. Hot gearbox oil can cause burns.

–  Loosen bolts -arrows- of cover diagonally and remove. Hold cover when doing this.
–  Allow oil to drain out and then remove cover with seal.
About 3 litres of oil will drain.

t  Cover bolts always must be renewed.
t  The seal of the cover must also be replaced.

–  Remove oil pump cover -A-.

–  Screw out the bolts -2, 3- that fix the pendulum support to gearbox → Rep. gr.40.
This allows the gearbox to be pushed slightly to the rear.

Before touching mechatronic unit, touch an earthed object → Anchor.

–  Release connector -1- of gearbox input speed sender -G182- and oil temperature sender in multi-plate clutch -G509- using release tool -T10465- and pull connector off.

–  First pull line out of lower clip -arrow I-.
–  Then remove it from upper clip -arrow II- and lay to side. Do not kink line.

–  Loosen securing bolts -1- through -10- in given order and remove.

–  Carefully pull mechatronic unit out of gearbox housing so that sender arm -B- on back is no longer in gearbox housing.
When handling mechatronic unit, pay special attention to the »long« sender arm.
–  Carefully remove the mechatronic control unit -J743- by turning it downwards.

Deposit the mechatronic control unit correctly.
  Caution
Never lift the mechatronic control unit by the »sensor arm« nor lean the unit on the arm.

If the arm is damaged, the mechatronic control unit must be replaced.
