Check whether a coded radio is installed as during the forthcoming work sequences the battery earth strap must be disconnected. Obtain radio code first if necessary.

Special tools, workshop equipment, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required

  • ◆ Union nut spanner 3217

Removing

  • ‒ Observe safety precautions
  • ‒ With ignition switched off disconnect battery earth strap.
  • ‒ Remove luggage compartment floor cover
Warning!
Fuel supply lines are under pressure! Before removing from hose connection wrap a cloth around the connection. Then release pressure by carefully pulling hose off connection.

  • ‒ → Pull 4-pin connector and supply and return pipes off flange.
  • ‒ Remove union nut with 3217.
  • ‒ Pull flange and seal out of the opening in fuel tank.
  • ‒ Release delivery unit by turning to left out of bayonet connection and remove.

Note:

If the delivery unit is still full of fuel, empty it before replacing.

Installing

Installing the fuel delivery unit is carried out in the reverse order.

Notes:

  • ◆ When inserting the fuel delivery unit ensure that the fuel gauge sender is not bent.

  • ◆ Coat flange seal with fuel when fitting.
  • ◆ Ensure fuel hoses are seated securely.
  • ◆ Installation position of fuel delivery unit flange => Page 20-8, Fig. 1.
  • ◆ → When the fuel delivery unit is correctly installed the fuel gauge sender float points in direction of travel A:
