Removing
–  Remove the driver side lower lining → Bodywork, interior fitting work; Rep. Gr.68.
–  Remove the vent from the foot well area on the left side → Chapter.
–  Remove the voltage supply to the Additional heating element (00402) -Z35 - by removing the corresponding fuse (currently 100 A), the fuse location is shown in the corresponding circuit diagram → Current flow diagrams, Electrical fault finding and Fitting locations.
   
–  Remove the 4 bolts -A- and remove the cover -B-.
  Note!
t  There are different versions of the cover -B- (for vehicles with or without additional electric heating) → Parts catalogue.

t  If the lever to the left hand side temperature vent is in a position that makes it impossible to reach the upper bolt -A-, turn on the ignition and select a different temperature regulation on the Climatronic control unit (01320) -J255- to the left.

–  Disconnect the connector -A- from the heating element -D-.
–  Check for example using a voltage tester, between the pins -C- (positive) and -B- (negative); there must be no voltage (danger of short circuit).
–  Mark the two cable connections to the Additional heating element (00402) -Z35- (there is a risk of confusion).

If the pin allocation is mixed up, the Additional heating heater element (00402) -Z35- is unable to regulate the voltage and the Additional heating heater element (00402) -Z35- has a voltage supply flowing through it continuously (unregulated, with maximum heating potential).
–  Release the cable connections -B- and -C- to the Additional heating element(00402) -Z35- and isolate the connections (short circuit risk).

–  Extract the Additional heating element (00402) -Z35--A- (with the Additional air heating control unit (00483) -J604--B-;this cannot be tested or separated) from the air conditioning (from the heating).
