Removing and installing fresh air and air recirculation flap control motor -V154-
Fresh air and air recirculation flap control motor -V154- on vehicles with no air conditioner
Air recirculation flap control motor -V113- on vehicles with manually controlled air conditioner
  Note
t  In the self-diagnosis and circuit diagrams for heating and manual climate control the servomotor has a different designation; the removal and fitting instructions, however, are the same.
t  Check the operation of the Servomotor for the fresh air / air recirculation flap -V154- and the Heating control unit -J65- . (vehicles without air conditioning)
t  Check, once the new servomotor (in heating) is attached for the activation from the heating control unit -J65-and the operation of the servomotor for the outer air/air recirculation flap -V154- (correct position for air recirculation and fresh air mode).
t  The servomotor for fresh air/air recirculation flap -V154- can only be removed and installed in the „maximum position of fresh air mode“. Should the control motor stop in a different position and it can no longer be moved electrically to the „fresh air mode“ end position, it is difficult to detach and remove.
Removal:
–  Turn the ignition on and wait until the servo motor is in its final position „fresh air option“.
–  Switch ignition OFF.
–  Remove the glove compartment: → Bodywork, interior installation work; Rep. gr.68.

–  Release catches -B- and -C- for bracket -A- at intake duct and detach bracket -A-.
  A80-0253
–  Detach control motor -B- from intake duct (in direction of arrow).
  Note
t  The connection between the cogwheels of the servomotor and the dynamic pressure flap is designed is such a way that the servomotor may only be easily removed in the position „fresh air option“ (the opening for the air recirculation inlet option by the fresh air / air recirculation flap -A- is closed).
t  If the servo motor is in any other position and cannot be moved, it may not be extracted without first loosening the allotment points -C-, ensure to avoid any damage to the cogwheel -D- during this operation.
Installation
  Note
  A80-0252
Replacement control motors are supplied in the „fresh air mode“ position. The motor can only be attached to the gear wheel of the fresh air/air recirculation flap when the gear wheel -A- is on stop -B-. Control motors which have been removed in a different position or actuated following removal cannot be installed. If the gear wheel -A- of the control motor is not on stop -B- („fresh air mode“), move it to the position required for installation.
Setting gear wheel at control motor to „fresh air mode“ position
–  Connect removed control motor to vehicle wiring harness (via connector provided).
–  Turn the ignition on (the Heating control unit -J65- activates the servomotor so that it moves into the position „fresh air option limit“).
–  Wait until gear wheel -A- of control motor has reached stop -B- („fresh air mode“).
–  Switch ignition OFF.
Installing
–  Switch ignition OFF.
–  Connect control motor to vehicle wiring harness via connector provided.
  A87-0694
–  Reach into intake opening for air recirculation mode and move fresh air/air recirculation flap -A- to „fresh air mode“ position (intake opening for air recirculation mode closed).
–  Insert control motor -B- in mountings -C- in direction opposite to arrow and position it on gear wheel -D-.
  A80-0252
–  To make it possible to slide gear wheel at control motor -A- onto gear wheel of fresh air/air recirculation flap, short tooth -C- of gear wheel at control motor must be aligned with short tooth gap -D- of gear wheel at shaft of fresh air/air recirculation flap -D-.
–  Route wiring harness so that it cannot come into contact with moving components (e.g. control motor lever).
  A87-0695
–  Install bracket -A-, taking particular care to ensure that guide of bracket -D- is properly inserted in mounting of intake duct -E- and that bracket is correctly engaged in catches -B- and -C-.
–  Check control motor. It must be held in position by bracket -A-. Eliminate any clearance if necessary by attaching a piece of foam to inside of attachment points -F- of bracket -A-.
  Note
t  The position of the servomotor (and the flap) is not visible when the glove compartment is mounted. For this purpose, check operation before mounting the glove box.
t  If the two gear wheels have been assembled in the wrong position, the fresh air/air recirculation flap will not reach its two end positions or the control motor will not run smoothly.
–  Switch on ignition.
–  Check the operation of the fresh air and air recirculation flap servomotor -V154- and activation by the heating control unit -J65-.
  A80-0253
–  Actuate the servomotor until the notched wheel -D- is located at the limit „fresh air intake mode“ or am at the limit „re-circulated air mode“ and check the function of the fresh air in re-circulated air / take flap -A-. This must be open (re-circulated air mode) or closed (fresh air intake mode).
Re-install all components removed in reverse order.
