Fitting
Fitting
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removing, noting the following:
–  To fit the air conditioning unit, the help of a second mechanic is required.
  Note
t  Check all seals at air conditioner unit for damage prior to installation and replace damaged seals.
t  Check attachment of coolant pipes to heat exchanger.

–  Fit the seal -A-(from the passenger compartment) in the transverse panel -B-, ensuring the correct position of the reinforcement -C- (wire strap) on the grommet -A-.
–  Seek the help of another person to fit the climate control unit.

–  The second person must insert (from the engine compartment) the two brackets for the coolant hoses to the heat exchanger -A- and the expansion valve (to the evaporator) -B- in the openings of the grommet -C- when fitting the climate control .
  Note
t  When fitting the air conditioning, pay attention to both coolant pipes to heat exchanger to ensure that they do not catch on the opening to the plenum chamber or on the sound proofing mat and are bent or damaged.
t  Pay attention to wiring harness. Pulling too firmly could damage individual wires.
–  Connect the water condensation drain to the connection of the climate control unit and check the correct positioning → Chapter.
–  Re-install components removed with the exception of the driver sides lower trim in reverse order.
  Note
t  When installing dashboard, make sure intermediate de-icer piece is properly positioned on air conditioner unit on insertion and that defroster vent does not squash intermediate piece on fitting.
t  After installing dashboard, check exit direction and distribution of air flow from de-icer vent to windscreen.

–  Connect the flexible tubes for the liquid coolant correctly to the heat exchanger. Note the markings:
A - Cylinder head feed
B - Return tube to the water pump
–  Fit coolant pipes from the expansion valve → Chapter.
–  Bleed the coolant circuit of air → Engine, mechanics; Rep. Gr.19.
–  Check coolant circuit for leaks, paying particular attention to connection between coolant pipes and heat exchanger → Chapter, → Engine, mechanics; Rep. Gr.19.

–  Check the correct positioning of the grommet -C- in the transverse panel.
–  Seal the flanges for the coolant hoses to the heat exchanger -A- and the pressure release valve (to evaporator) -B- in the openings of the grommet -C-, for example using silicon sealing paste (so that it is water tight).
–  Empty the refrigerant circuit and refill it → Air conditioning - with refrigerant R134a SEAT.
–  Refit the lower lining on the driver side as well as any other components that were removed.
–  Test the operation of the climate control unit, for example, using the function “basic setting” (correct electrical connections test) → Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system VAS 5051.
